On just being.

One of my favorite Bible verses is "Be still and know that I am God." I heard a whole sermon this morning on being still.

The sermon woke me up, literally, because I have my television set to come on every morning as an alarm clock. This morning, Joyce Meyer came bounding into my sleep admonishing me, ironically, to be still. To rest. To restore my soul.

"Have you noticed how noisy the world is?" she said. She said silence is rest for the soul. The soul is your inner "you", your personality.

Sometimes I would say to my children, who chattered constantly at me "my ears are tired. I can't hear you any more."

There's a lot of noise out there about swine flu today. Does your soul feel tired? Is the inner you constantly on guard and feeling weary of the whole thing? Go find a quiet place and be still.

Boring, right? Embrace boredom. Learn how.

Then you'll hear yourself think. And you'll know that God is there too.
